Songs - My Grandfather's Clock

grandfather and his clock

We encourage you to give your child a wide range of musical experiences: singing songs, listening to all kinds of music, dancing at home, attending local musical performances when possible. One of the best (and easiest!) activities is singing with your child. If you don't feel confident about your own singing voice, remember that the more you sing with your child, the more comfortable you'll feel, and the more you'll both enjoy music together. Here is one song for Year 3 children that we suggest for singing together.

My grandfather's clock
Was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half
Than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn
Of the day that he was born,
And was always his treasure and pride;
But it stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

[chorus]
Ninety years without slumbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
His life seconds numbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
It stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.
